United Basic Economy Passengers Can Check In Online
United Airlines is making a positive change for passengers traveling in basic economy, allowing them to check online.
Starting August 6, United customers with a basic economy ticket can check in on the United app, United.com, or at an airport kiosk, the airline revealed. Currently, those with basic economy tickets need to check in for their flights in person at the airport.
The current rule is in place because basic economy fares do not include a carry-on bag. So United agents confirm in person that basic economy travelers don’t have one of these items.
When the online check in option goes live, United will require them add a credit card and agree to a $65 charge. That charge is just in case they bring a bag to the gate. United charges a $40 checked bag fee and $25 gate handling fee.
